The Southern Shore

We drove from St. John's to Renews today, an area of the Avalon Peninsula known as the Southern Shore (the road is called the Irish Loop). We saw a lot more icebergs than we thought we would.

Torbay Iceberg

This iceberg in Torbay is fairly close to shore. If you walk up the trail you can look down on it. It looks different from the other side.

I hiked the hills of Quidi Vidi today....they are steep! Beautiful views from up there, it was sunny and windy and a gorgeous day to be out.

Flatrock

The big iceberg that was in Flatrock harbour looks as if it has split in two. It's only half as big as it was. While I was taking pictures of it I saw a seagull's nest on the rocks as well as some dead fish in a net. Of course I had to take pictures of that as well.

Logy Bay & Last Night's Sunset

Yesterday I went to Logy Bay to hide a geocache. It involved a steep climb up the hills by the Ocean Sciences Centre but it was worth it for the views. I saw a small iceberg there, conveniently located beyond the viewpoint sign. Last evening I took some photos of the sunset from Signal Hill.

Fort Amherst & Iceberg

I walked out to Fort Amherst to see the iceberg that is fairly close to shore. Then I had to climb up the hill to get a good shot with the iceberg and lighthouse. Then a supply ship came in so I waited around to get the ship, lighthouse and iceberg all in one photo.

Spring Flowers

There are a few flowers coming up in Bannerman Park. Not a lot, but with a macro lens it doesn't matter how many there are.
